Abstract

The role of personality orientation in the development of social competences in the process of preparation for professional activity of higher education students of pedagogical specialties is investigated. The relevance of the study stems from the fact that in the process of teacher's professional activity, his/her orientation becomes an essential aspect of this activity. Therefore, one of the cornerstone problems of psychological and pedagogical science is related to the study of the sphere of personal orientation of participants in the educational process as a leading factor in the effectiveness of educational activities. This, in turn, involves the study of the development of social competences involved in the formation of readiness for professional activity of specialists in the educational sphere.

The orientation of a personality capable of self-determination is an important component of readiness for a particular activity. Readiness for pedagogical activity is understood as an integral new formation of a personality that determines the orientation towards pedagogical activity. Such orientation arises on the basis of personal interest and sustainable motivation for pedagogical activity, is determined by professional needs, awareness of the social significance of the teacher's activity, as well as the presence of qualities inherent in a specialist in the educational sphere. The performance of professional duties of a teacher at a high level is largely related to the development of social competencies.

It has been found that the social competences of a teacher have a complex structure and hierarchy, and in the professional activity of a teacher they have several characteristic features that form an individual complex that makes up the system of social competences of a personality. In order to study the social competences of future specialists in the educational sphere, a study of personality orientation according to the method of W. Bass was conducted, as well as the manifestation of social competences in resolving conflict situations according to the method of K. Thomas and R. Kilmann.

The survey was conducted among higher education students of pedagogical specialties at the Ivan Franko Zhytomyr State University in 2023-2024. It was determined that the orientation of the individual has a significant impact on the development of social competencies, which can be relevant under certain circumstances.
