The article is devoted to the analysis of the work of the Ukrainian folklorist of the beginning of the 20th century - Kliment Kvitka - a scientist who at the same time carried out successful administrative activities, heading the Cabinet of Musical Ethnography of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences in Kyiv. It was found out that in the most unfavorable conditions, deliberately created by the Stalinist authorities, due to constant rude interference in the scientific and administrative activities of the scientist, K. Kvittsa as a young scientist, compiler of important collections of musical folklore, recognized theorist-innovator (in the future, the founder of the music-folkloristic pedagogy) - it was extremely difficult to combine powerful scientific activity and exhausting administrative work.
It has been proven that the serious and responsible activity of K. Kvitka in the field of folklore studies opened new avenues of activity for the scientist (as an innovator in many fundamental issues of folklore studies), which provided him with hitherto unexplored opportunities to go much further than other researchers in his numerous scientific achievements, which surprised the scientific community.
The scientist focuses his attention on a wide range of interests, which primarily reflect: the moral code of the collector and researcher of folklore, documentation of folk music, the specifics of the subject of ethnomusicology, criticism and textology, folk performance, music and folklore genres, transcription, the place of folkloristics in the system of historical disciplines (he created the world's only logically accurate theory of rhythm-structural typology and mapping of song types), the origin of music, comparative aspects of research, scientific self-criticism
In terms of encyclopedic knowledge, the depth of the studied problems and analytical flair, scientist Kvitka, who is rightly considered one of the world-class scientists, has no equal in world ethnomusicology. Turbulent centuries have passed, and even at the beginning of the 3rd millennium, the name of the great scientist continues to remain at the highest levels of the scientific heritage of the special science of ethnomusicology.
