УДК 378.013 Value orientations and life position of modern student youth

The article analyzes the essence and interrelation of such concepts as “value”, “value-orientations”, “life position”, “student”, “student youth”; different classifications of universal values and student youth‟s values are considered; the results of the research of values and value-orientations, the life position of students of higher education institutions are presented. On the basis of the analysis of the results of the conducted research the directions of activation of educational work with students in higher education institutions, patriotic, civic and moral education in particular, were determined. They include the following: diversification of activity and synthetic forms and methods; creation of discussion clubs for young people; circles on problematic issues of patriotic and civic education; increasing attention to teaching social, psychological and pedagogical disciplines; intensification of the use of traditional and innovative technologies, forms and methods of civic education in practical classes of psycho-pedagogical and social disciplines: conversation, discussion, seminar, oral journals, holidays, vechornytsi, conferences, visits to museums, exhibitions, situational role-playing games, dramatization games, social-psychological training, intellectual auctions. Civic, patriotic and moral education need a gradual implementation. The main stages of patriotic education include: ethnic self-awareness (native homeland culture); national-political self-awareness (sense of national dignity); public-state self-awareness (patriotism, nationalism, caring attitude to national-cultural values and peoples). The main stages of moral education include. The content of educational work includes the unity of two aspects: theoretical (perception of the ideological wealth of the people, his moral and ethical values, transformed in the means of folk pedagogy, awareness of the principles, forms and methods of organizing educational influence on youth) and practical (constant and systematic educational activities of the family and state educational institutions, the media).
