The article deals with the problems of development and socialization of the individual at the present stage of formation of national society. The role of art in the process of becoming a harmonious personality has been clarified. It is proved that art for today becomes one of the means of self-realization of the individual and a way of solving the life difficulties of the modern man. Its role in the upbringing of the younger generation is steadily increasing, since it is possible to counteract the phenomena of spirituality, immorality only by forming awareness of the importance and priority of human values, improving creative potential, striving for cognition.
The purpose of the article is to substantiate the influence of art on the formation of a harmonious personality as a factor of its socialization. The objectives of the article are: analysis of the concept of «harmonious development of personality», the definition of types of education and their impact on personality development, explaining the importance of art in the life of the individual, its development and socialization.
Much attention is paid to the spiritual growth of a person, the formation of high aesthetic tastes and preferences in harmonious education. The cultural environment, enriched by the life-giving atmosphere of a human-centred socio-cultural experience, is capable of fostering a person's desire for self-fulfilment, forming a sense of social responsibility, critical thinking skills.
It is proved that the influence of art on the formation of a harmonious personality as a factor of its socialization depends on age characteristics, mental state, and the leading type of artistic and aesthetic activity of man. The basis of communication with art is important psychological mechanisms of the process of perception, related to the dialectical nature of the interaction of individual-emotional development of the individual, the level of his intellectual and cultural development, artistic and aesthetic and life experience.
It has been found that the importance of art as a factor of harmonious development and socialization of personality lies in the moral and aesthetic nature of its influence: the emotional content of the work becomes an incentive for the formation and expression of feelings, emotional background of life and human activity. Communication with art activates emotions, thoughts, values of the world, invokes associations that took place in her personal life, feelings and experiences.
