The article reveals the issues of preserving the national self-identifi cation, mentality of Ukrainians by early involvement in the folklore treasury in preschool childhood, the means of Ukrainian folk tales and illustrations to it. The author emphasizes that the child’s development takes the form of assimilation of socio-historical experience of mankind. Therefore, it should be based on a specifi c reproductive activity, through which the child learns the historical fundamental needs and abilities of the representatives of his people, formed for inclusion in the spiritual and material life. For such assimilation, the child absolutely needs to communicate with adults who have to some extent mastered the national culture and are able to pass on experience, teach the developed methods of spiritual and material self-determination (self-identifi cation) among fellow citizens and foreigners.
The current programs of preschool education are analyzed: Basic component of preschool education, «Baby», «Sure start», partial programs of I. Lykova «Colored palms», L. Shulga «Colorful joy» and noted the presence of tasks for the development of coherent speech children on the basis of communication with folklore forms (fairy tales) and, to some extent, fi ne arts.
It was found that the mastery of artistic experience, concentrated in illustrative graphic works, DPM products, contributes to the socialization of the child, enrichment of his artistic practice and understanding of beauty in all its forms, however, it forms a culture of human feelings, develops and enriches their diversity. in the personal experience of the child, is a means of spiritual communication with peers and adults, establishing interaction in the socio-cultural and natural environment.
